Kevin Hoef- SS- Triad HS, Troy, IL- 6'3"/180. Hoef ran a very good sixty (6.81) for his size, and looks like he will maintain that speed. Defensively he has solid arm strength from SS, and we have seen him throw harder from SS before. He is a good, big, athlete who is well schooled in the game. He is strong at the plate and smoked a base hit back up the middle off a 90 mph FB during the game. The tools are there, he is someone to remember. An outstanding student with big time makeup, Hoef has signed with the U of Iowa. He should get some serious draft interest as well.

Kevin Hoef is a 2005 shortstop from Troy, Illinois, with a strong and projectable frame at 6'3", 180 lbs. Hoef was one of the cold weather players who played very well at the showcase. He showed very good arm strength from the infield with solid actions despite not taking a ground ball on an outdoor field for a few months. Hoef also showed his potential at the plate. He hits from a slightly spread stance with very good bat speed. He has good balance at the plate with a slight loft in his swing. Hoef has good raw power with good leverage at contact. He showed some of that raw power in a showcase game when he blasted a triple over the center fielder's head. Hoef also pitched an inning. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot, and gets good arm side run on his fastball that topped out at 87 mph. Hoef had a slight drop and drive delivery, and threw his curveball at 71-73 mph with good tilt. Hoef is a very talented player with arm strength, power potential, running ability and playability. Athletic, Ryne Sandberg type, scouts need to see him. He is a good student who has signed with Iowa.
