Justin Baca is a 2007 RHP/OF from Sierra Vista HS, residing in Las Vegas, NV, with a 6'2" 192 lb. frame. Baca was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase, was written up in the Top Prospect list, and was invited to the National Showcase. He has a strong, power pitcher build. Baca pitches from an over the top slot and showed good timing during his delivery. His arm works well and with that patient delivery, he is able to get on top of the ball well, allowing him to work with his quality stuff in the bottom of the zone. Baca showed an 86-88 mph FB and tilted it through the bottom of zone on a regular basis. Baca ss aggressive with the ball and it really showed with his hard 74-77 mph CB. That pitch was his best pitch, with 11/5 shape, tight spin, and late action. It has the makings of a legitimate power breaking ball with that late downer action and ability to already throw it in the upper 70s. Baca also flashed a mid-70s change-up with decent feel. His present day stuff is very good and will continue to get better. He is a young power pitcher that is around the zone and has feel for a developing power CB that is a difference making pitch. For those reasons he is a top tier D1 prospect and will also get strong draft interest in the spring of 2007.
