Justin Colvenback is a 2006 RHP/2B from Gulf Coast High School in Naples, FL, with a strong 6'0'', 168 lb. frame. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 to high 3/4 arm slot with good mechanics and solid arm speed. Colvenback is quick to the plate and his front shoulder opens early at times, but he gets good use of his lower half. He gets good late life on his fastball with cutting action in on the hands of right handed hitters. Colvenback uses a good mix of pitches including a 71 mph curveball, 75 mph slider, and a 76 mph changeup. He sets up hitters well using his fastball to get ahead and then he uses his curveball to finish them off. There is sharp break on his curveball with good depth and it is a definite strikeout pitch. Offensively he hits from an open and upright stance, and shows good bat speed through the zone. He commits his weight out front early causing inconsistent contact, but he has the bat speed to hit. Colvenback has upside on the mound with two-way potential. He is also a good student.

Justin Colvenback is a 2006 RHP/IF from Naples, Florida, with a 5'11", 160 lb. frame. Colvenback throws from a 3/4 to high 3/4 arm slot with solid mechanics. He has a loose arm that works well with a short arm arch on the backside. He gets good movement on his fastball with sinking and tailing action. His fastball topped out at 80 mph, and he mixed in a 71 mph curveball, and a 76 mph slider. His slider was a good pitch with sharp biting action at times. Colvenback hits his spots and throws quality strikes. He shows pitchability and battles on the mound. He is also a right handed hitter with a balanced swing. Colvenback has solid bat speed, and showed good hands on inside pitches. Defensively he has solid actions in the infield with good carry on his throws across the diamond. Colvenback is also a very good student.

Justin Colvenback is a young 2006 right handed pitcher from Naples, Florida, with a middle infielder’s build and a very good idea of how to pitch. We’ve seen him at WWBA events in the past, and have seen him pitch some very good games. Colvenback didn’t have his best stuff in Fort Myers, but showed us some new wrinkles on his normal pitches. He pitched at 78-79 mph on his fastball and we’ve seen him up to 84 mph in the past. He threw a couple of cutters at 75 mph that we hadn’t seen before that were good pitches, and also threw a couple of 66 mph change ups. Colvenback’s 66 mph curveball is his best pitch, and he threw some sharp ones once he got settled down. Colvenback has some deception in his delivery with a Mike Mussina style shoulder hump just before he throws the ball, and does a good job spotting all his pitches around the strike zone. Justin is a good student and needs to be followed.

Justin Colvenback -- Colvenback is a slender young sophomore right hander with some good projection to him. He has solid pitching mechanics and his arm works very well. Colvenback threw 4 innings at the World Underclass, pitching mostly between 78 and 80 mph with a sinking fastball. Once he got the feel of it, Colvenback’s best pitch was a 68-71 mph curveball that had solid spin and bite to it. He also threw a couple of change ups. Colvenback did a good job of throwing strikes and looked polished on the mound for a young hurler. Keep an eye on him. Justin is a good student.

Justin is a young 2006 pitcher who showed some good potential. His fastball was in the 77-78mph range with movement. His curveball is his best pitch at 66-70mph with good bite. He has good command of both pitches, but especially his curveball. He can pitch and will be real interesting as he gets older and develops more arm strength.

Young small "06" who can pitch. Needs to grow bigger and stronger, but 6 up and 6 down using three nice pitches. Smooth arm action, it will be interesting to watch him develop over the next few years.
