Aaron Lerma -- Lerma is a sophomore catcher from Texas with very strong hips and thighs. He hits from a no load, no stride approach at the plate that doesn’t use this strength to it's full extent, but Lerma still generates good bat speed. Lerma has a slashing swing that shoots line drives consistently towards the middle of the field. The ball jumps off Lerma’s bat and he was right on most pitches it seemed. Defensively, Lerma’s arm strength is playable right now and his pop times are excellent for a young catcher because of his quickness and compact actions. If he develops more power in his arm over the next couple of years, Lerma’s pop times are going to be in the elite range. Lerma is also a very good student.

Lerma is a 2006 catcher to watch. He has a good young build with some present strength that projects him well over the next couple years. He showed receiving ability with catch and throw potential. His arm strength is real good for an "06" and he got his pop time consistently in the 2.10 to 2.20 range and as low as 2.08 in the workout. He ran a 7.26 in the 60 which is excellent for a growing 2006 potential catching prospect. He hustles and plays hard. He showed us a pretty good line drive swing in batting practice and carried it over in games with some good at bats including a sharp single on a very good slider from one of the better pitchers in the showcase. There is a lot of upside for this catcher and needs to be followed.
