Kurt Smith is a big MLB bodied RHP from Cincinnati, OH. Smith has a power body and power arm and we’ve heard reports of his touching 94-95 mph and we believe those reports. He pitched in the 88-92 mph range at Tropicana with a 70-73 mph curveball. Kurt has one of the nation's best arms and he can command his heater. It's one of those fastballs that looks like it's gaining instead of losing speed at the plate. He can pitch at any college in the country and he might become a high pick in next years draft. He shows athleticism along with his obvious strength. He can run and he can hit the long ball. Scouts need to follow him closely, because he could turn into a consistent mid 90s guy real soon. Kurt is a good student.

Kurt Smith -- Smith is a physically strong 6-4, 215 lb athlete from Ohio with durable big league ready body. We’ve heard reports of Smith throwing in the low 90’s before and believe them after watching him in Fort Myers. Smith sat steadily at 86-88 mph for 3 innings with good cutting action on his fastball. He has a clean, fast arm stroke and generates good leverage and plane to the plate on his pitches. Smith’s curveball topped out at 71 mph and he flashed some good ones, with hard downer bite on occasion. We didn’t see a change up but Smith was very polished about moving the ball around the strike zone and in his approach to pitching and a quality change up would be just part of his anticipated package. Smith pitches with a calm confidence, which is nice to see in a young pitcher. He’s also a big power threat with the bat because of his strength and really drove some balls hard in batting practice. Kurt is a good student.
