Mayes is a 5-10 right handed hitting outfielder from Alabama with a good athletic body. He showed good raw tools for a young player during the showcase drills, running a 7.21 60 and throwing 78 mph from the outfield from a lower than normal release point. Mayes hits from a wide stance with a flat bat path and a rotational swing. It doesn’t look like to us that Mayes has swung the wood bat much as his swing is much more suited to metal at this point. Mayes gets out of the box quickly and made an impression on us with his hustling, all out style of play. He’s a very good student.

Kyle Mayes -- Mayes is a freshman outfielder from Alabama with some good raw athletic ability. He runs very well for his age and also shows good arm strength in the field. The interesting thing about Mayes at the plate, after considering his age and relative lack of strength for wood, is that he obviously has excellent hand/eye coordination. His feet and body are all over the place in his approach and he still managed to make solid contact most of the time against live pitching. Mayes will have to hone his approach at the plate and get stronger, but he’s going to be able to put the bat head on the ball. Kyle is an excellent young prospect who needs to be followed.

He is a young player with athleticism. With growth, strength and some mechanical adjustments he can develop into a nice college player. He has early extension at the plate and wraps. He has above average speed for his age with a 7.08 sixty.
