Matt Dunn is a 2006 C/OF/P with a 6'0'', 200 lb. frame from Clive IA, who attends Dowling HS. Dunn has a strong body, especially in the lower half. He has excellent arm strength from both the outfield and from behind the plate and his 81 mph drill reading measures up with some of the best catching velos in the country. His best pop time was 1.89. Dunn throws with effort from both positions but there's no mistaking his arm strength. He's a good athlete at both positions with quickness and speed. Dunn hits from a tall stance with a hard front foot jab to the ball and generates good bat speed. Dunn has an upper cut approach, with dropped hands and a low back shoulder, causing an upper cut swing that leads to inconsistent contact. The ball jumps off Dunn's bat hard on contact and he shows power potential. Dunn also pitched a bit, throwing an 82 mph fastball and 10/4 curveball that had fair spin and break. We've seen Dunn in the mid-80's before, which is certainly consistent with his positional arm strength. Dunn is also a good student.

Matt Dunn is a 6-0, 195 lb senior catcher from Iowa with very good present strength. He's a hard nosed type of athlete that coaches will enjoy having on their team. He showed very good arm strength both from behind the plate (78 mph) and from the outfield (87 mph), although the outfield is a secondary position for him. His release as a catcher is a bit slow and deliberate, which leaves his pop times around 2.05 in drills, but his game pop times are very consistent with that and he makes very accurate, low, on the bag throws and throws runners out. Dunn also shows quickness and range behind the plate and is a high energy receiver. Offensively, Dunn has a compact, pull oriented swing and the ball jumps off his bat due to his strength. He'll hit some home runs with metal in his hands because he likes to pull the ball and he can drive the ball to the gaps as well. Dunn is a solid Division I caliber player who should be able to adjust to the next level quickly. He is also a good student.

Dunn is a physically strong and fairly mature junior catcher from Iowa. He also played some outfield and may have better pure physical tools to play that position at the next level. Dunn’s running speed is good and his arm stroke and arm strength are much more impressive from the outfield. Dunn also made one of the defensive plays of the event with a great diving catch in the outfield. At the plate, Dunn has a Jeff Bagwell type approach that takes advantage of his very strong hands. He has no stride and a limited hand load but creates loft and bat speed in a very quick swing. He hit the ball hard both in games and in batting practice, especially to the opposite field. Dunn also threw 3 innings, showing a 77-79 mph fastball that he turns over with some sinking and running action, plus a 71 mph breaking ball. He is a good student.

Dunn is an "06" C/P from Clive, IA. At 5'11/180 he has a stocky type build that looks like a catchers body. He showed good arm strength, soft hands, quickness and does an excellent job of receiving. At the plate he showed a good aggressive swing and could develop into a power guy. On the mound he topped in the low 80s with a short but tension free arm action. He's very effortless and the ball gets out of his hand clean. He showed a real good deceptive slider in the mid 70s that fooled hitters. He also showed a developing changeup at 73 mph. Matt is a good student and has a chance to develop into a highest level player.
