2003 Western Underclass Showcase
Garner is a very strong bodied 2004 pitcher who should move on to a successful college career based on what we saw in Peoria. He throws from a polished and smooth delivery with little effort and was in the 84 -86 mph range with his fastball. Garner throws mostly 2-seam fastballs and gets very good sinking life to his pitches. His breaking ball is a 66-68 mph curveball that gets good spin and biting action. Garner’s 74 mph change up also shows some promise. If he gets a chance to hit in college, Garner might do some damage, too. He has very good raw power and had some quality at bats in game situations. At 6'4/200 he has that MLB pitchers look about him and he still projects nicely. Matt is a good student.
