Matthew Skeffington is a 2006 shortstop/outfielder from Auburn, NH with a lean build that shows strength at 6-0, 165 lbs. He hits from a narrow stance with little or no stride. He takes a very short path to the ball with quick hands. He generates good bat speed with a line drive swing plane and he has the potential to hit for power. Defensively, he has a strong arm at 79 mph across the infield. He has a solid glove with good actions and a quick release. He has good body control on the move and he shows good range. He is a solid player with good tools and he will be top infielder at the next level. Matthew is a good student.

Skeffington is a 6-0 left handed hitting shortstop who lives in New Hampshire but goes to school in Florida. He has good overall body life and good quickness. Defensively, he shows very good fundamentals and works through the ball very well. Skeffington has a good release and his game throws were strong. At the plate, Skeffington hits out of a tall stance with good loading action and a balanced, crisp, line drive swing. He centers the ball very well and looks like he’s a high average type of hitter who can move the ball around the field and adjust to different types of pitching. Overall, Skeffington has some physical projection and above average baseball skills. He runs well with good instincts. He is a good student.

Matthew Skeffington -- Skeffington is a lean, long armed projectable sophomore right handed pitcher/shortstop from New Hampshire. He has excellent pitching mechanics for a young hurler, with good balanced hip rotation and loose, effortless arm stroke. Skeffington’s fastball was 77-80 mph with late boring action and we think he’s going to add plenty of velocity as he gets stronger. Skeffington’s curveball had good power to it at 70-72 mph and he threw lots of good sinking change ups from what might have been a split finger grip at 70-74 mph. Skeffington was ahead in the count to virtually every hitter for 3 innings and threw all 3 of his pitches for strikes at any point. Skeffington is a good athlete, too. He ran close to MLB average and hit very well in games with a short, quick stroke from the morrisonleft side of the plate. Skeffington has that ability to get the fat part of the bat on the ball a very high percentage of swings. We like Skeffington a bit more as a pitcher right now but he’s very worth keeping an eye on both ways.
