Hunter is a 6-4, 195 lb right handed pitcher from south Texas. We've seen him frequently in the last year, at times up to 89-90 mph on his fastball. Other reports on Hunter are filed in Prospects Plus for the 2004 World Underclass and the 2005 National Showcase. Hunter didn't feel well in Waco and had to leave the game after one inning. He topped out at 82 mph and obviously didn't feel like himself. Overall, he is a very good looking young pitcher and should be followed closely. Hunter is also a very good student.

Michael Hunter is a 2006 right handed pitcher/first baseman from Corpus Christi, TX with a big athletic build at 6-4, 195 lbs. He's a very good athlete for a primary pitcher and runs a 6.78 60 and has some power in his swing. Hunter throws from a high 3/4's release point with a good downhill angle to the plate. His 68 mph curveball lacks ideal velocity but it has very good depth and a 12/6 downer break to it. Hunter's fastball was in the 85-87 mph range in Atlanta, a couple of ticks below what we've often seen him in the past. He also threw a couple of 69 mph change ups. With his athleticism and projectable body, Hunter is a young pitching prospect with a big up side. Keep a close eye on him as prospects down in his part of Texas can be overlooked sometimes. Hunter is also a very good student.

Hunter is a strong and athletic 6-4, 190 lb right handed pitcher from South Texas. We’ve seen him in the upper 80’s before at events but Hunter did not pitch at the Academic because of arm soreness. He did hit and play in the field and showed his athleticism, running 7.36 and swinging a good bat with some power potential. Good follow when he gets healthy again.

Hunter is a very projectable 6-4, 185 lb junior right handed pitcher from South Texas with very good present strength for his relatively slender build. Hunter was one of the top pitching prospects at the Showcase and has plenty of room to get better with both physical maturity and some mechanical adjustments to his delivery. Hunter was 86-88 mph on his fastball with an easy and quick arm. He has some stabbing action in the back on his takeaway but works through it well without rushing. Hunter’s curveball was inconsistent and lacked some velocity at 66-68 mph but it had very good depth at times. He wasn’t hesitant to use his 71-75 mph change up and this could become a good pitch for him. One thing that Hunter does do consistently that correcting could help his command and location is falling off to the first base side on his release. Hunter won’t break into the prospect lists as a hitter but he did show us big time power potential during batting practice. He has a simple approach at the plate and a hard swing with plenty of extension and the ability to take the ball deep to all fields. Overall, Hunter is a young pitcher who we expect to be throwing in the low 90’s before long. He is also a good student.
