Michael Pugliese is a 2006 catcher/first baseman from Chino Hills, CA with a medium build at 5-11, 185 lbs. He ran the 60 in 7.63 and threw 75 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.97. Pugliese is a hustling, scrappy defensive catcher who uses his quickness to block the ball well and keeps everyone in the game. His throws were very accurate. Offensively, Pugliese has a quick, line drive swing and does a good job of staying back on the ball using his hands to hit the ball to all fields. He doesn't project much power with his present approach but he has strong hands and a good feel for what he's doing and is going to make consistent contact and hit for a high average. Pugliese' tools are solid, especially defensively, and he's a smart player who is going to maximize his physical potential. He is a very good student.

Michael is junior catcher from California with a good, strong, solid, big boned body that fits well into the catchng position. He is flexable and appears very durable. He has a compact swing and generates very good bat speed to the ball, although he does tend to cut himself off out front at times. Wide stance with no stride and some rhythm into the ball. Michael had a couple of good crisp line drive game hits and showed he could hit the ball where it was pitched. Defensively, Michael shows good lower body flexability and quick actions behind the plate. His release is smooth and repeatable, which leads to good accuracy. He has good arm strength. Michael showed us some leadership abilites behind the plate, which is nice to see in a young man. Could end up at a very high level. He is a very good student as well.

Pugliese is a very young 2006 catcher who showed us good skills at the plate. He has a polished, compact swing with wood that produced numerous hits in game situations and surprising strength for his age and size. Pugliese could develop good power as he gets older and stronger. Defensively, Pugliese has shown arm strength but needs to improve his footwork and transfers to make his pop times better. Only an "06" he is extremely interesting. It's much easier to improve pop times if you have a strong arm to start with. Michael is a good student.
