Nathan Karns is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Arlington, TX with a large projectable frame at 6-4, 219 lbs. He has a long arm action in back that works smoothly and smooth mechanics with a medium effort release way out front. Karns does a good job staying balanced over the rubber and letting his strong lower half drive him to the plate. His fastball topped out at 92 mph with some sinking and running action. Karns breaking ball is a mid-70's sluve that has a late bite with good 2-plane action. He also threw a couple of 76 mph change ups. With his frame, present velocity and fast arm, Karns is one of the top pitching prospects in the country and one of the true power pitchers who might end up throwing in the mid to upper 90's before everything is said and done.

Nathan Karns -- Karns is a young sophomore from the Dallas area whose name has a good chance to become very well known in the scouting and college coaching communities. He has an outstanding physical build at 6-3, 200 lbs with broad shoulders and plenty of room to add strength. Karns throws from an effortless, balanced delivery with a smooth arm action. He threw 80-85 mph for us and his fastball seemed to explode at the plate. Karns’ curveball was 69-74 mph and had tight spin and some 12/6 downer action to it. Karns looks like he’s a very good athlete who runs very well and fields his position. Another thing he can do is really swing the bat. Karns showed us some of the best power potential of any player at the showcase regardless of year or position Keep an eye on this young man, he is an "06" with an extremely bright future in baseball.
