Parker Neal is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Strasburg, VA, with a slim and extremely projectable 6'0", 145 lb. frame. He cruised through three innings in Fort Myers, facing the minimum nine hitters and striking out four. Neal is very balanced and smooth in his pitching mechanics and does a very good job maintaining his direction despite being pretty long in his back side mechanics. It’s not surprising that Neal did a great job of working quickly and throwing good strikes down in the zone. Neal’s fastball was 79-81 mph and that should improve a lot as he gains strength and bulk. He also threw a 62-64 mph curveball and 68 mph change up, but was mostly just aggressive early in counts with his fastball. He knows how to pitch and doesn't waste a lot of time. He's also got athletic ability along with very good tools. He runs well and shows outstanding instincts. At the plate he has a nice contact oriented swing. He has a chance to develop into a very good DI or DII pitcher and he's a good student.
