Barry Keiffer is a 6'4/170 2005 left handed pitcher from Midland, TX. Keiffer has a very tall and lanky frame. His delivery isn’t especially well balanced, and he has a short front side that opens early, but he works through it well and has a clean, smooth arm action. Keiffer was able to throw good strikes to spots with both his pitches. His fastball was 82-85 mph with some tailing life and he threw a low 70s curveball that had a short and sharp slider type of break. Keiffer could probably work on developing two separate breaking balls. The thing that impressed us the most about this slender southpaw was that he got out front on his pitches very well with nice extension. We think that Keiffer has some undeveloped physical talent that could come out in a big way with more strength and maturity. Keep an eye on him because he is a true sleeper. Reports are he's been in the upper 80s. Of course he's good right now, but the sky is the limit. Barry is a good student.

Keiffer is a good looking young left-hander with a very good arm. He is entering his junior year. He comes from a higher than three quarters slot and uses a slow, controlled delivery until he drives forward out of his balance point. He has sound lower half mechanics and long limbs that generate a lot of leverage. His arm action is very low stress but there is some room to improve even more. He should end up throwing high 80s or better down the road. His body, at 6 foot 3 and 180 pounds is very loose and extremely projectable. His fastball was 82-84 mph and his curve was 67-70 mph. He has a deceptive delivery and he moved his curveball in and out well. Excellent left-handed pitching prospect for the '05 class.
