Ben Booker is a 6'3/180 2005 INF/OF from Bruceville, TX. Booker is an angular 6'3", 180 lb. middle infielder who is an AFLAC All-American and who participated in the Perfect Game National Showcase earlier in the summer. He has some serious big league tools. Booker tells us that he’s been working on his running this summer and it shows. He ran a 6.44-60 on an average grass field, an improvement over his time on the Tropicana Field turf. Booker’s speed plays in games both on defense and on offense. Defensively, Booker showed very good range and soft, sure hands in Waco. He flows through the ball very well and made all the plays. His arm strength is still a bit below average for shortstop and there has been plenty of talk about him playing second base or even the outfield in the future. Offensively, Booker is still just scratching the surface of his potential. He has the hand strength and bat speed to hit with above average power, but consistently hits around the ball in games and tends to be overanxious and not trust his ability. Every once in a while Booker will stay back and center a ball and it will rocket off his bat, though. Booker is a serious, hard working ball player and is going to put in the time to keep improving, we’re sure. He's one of the best in his class.

Ben Booker is a athleticly built 6'3/180 INF/OF from Bruceville, TX. Booker overcame a slow start at the showcase to show his impressive physical tools during the games. He’s a 6-3 middle infielder with excellent MLB PLUS speed and great projectability. He has a nice left-hand swing and hits lots of line drives to all fields. His arm is fine, but it's his weakest tool at this point. That is because the other tools grade out real high. He is a top of the order hitter who will hit the long ball at times. Very highest level college 2B/CF prospect and should get serious high draft interest at those positions. Ben was selected to the AFLAC All American Team. He is a very good student.

Ben Booker -- Booker was one of the stars of the showcase with both his glove and his bat. He’s a 6-2 junior shortstop from Texas with a very projectable body and good strength. There’s a chance that Booker could outgrow shortstop and end up at third base but for right now he has plenty of athleticism and tools for the position. In fact, Booker made the infield defensive play of the weekend, going deep into the hole, stopping the ball with an Omar Vizquel style dive and pop up and gunning the runner out at first base. At the plate, Booker hits out of a wide base with a small stride and a small hand load. He’s very quick and short to the ball and shows excellent strength and control in his hands. Booker had 6 hits in 10 at bats during the games and hit some ropes. His wide stance cuts down his extension somewhat but Booker can turn on the inside pitch and a few subtle adjustments could give him loft power in the future. To round it off, Booker is a well above average MLB runner, too, who is a threat to steal bases at any time. You don’t see too many 5-tool players but if his power develops, Booker might be one of them. He’s a very strong student in the classroom as well. He's a top "05" prospect nationally.
