Randall Shepherd is a 5'10", 170 lb. catcher from Vero Beach, Florida. Behind the dish he showed pop time ranges from 1.95-2.00 with a top velocity of 76 mph. Randall has very quick transfers, and pro level accuracy on his throws. He has good footwork and should shut down running games at the top college levels. Randall is a right handed hitter with a narrow stance and very little lower half rotation in his swing. He shows good bat speed right now with a very short swing, but could improve with more lower half involvement. Randall centers the ball well with above average consistency, and has line drive power that shows his hand strength. Shepherd is a top level D1 type catcher who the pro scouts will take notice of. Randell is a very good student.

Randall Shepherd is a 2005 catcher from Vero Beach, FL, with very good quickness and athletic ability. His arm strength is professional level and of the six throws he made during the workouts, his slowest was 1.97. Quickness and arm strength are a hard combination to beat for a catcher trying to stop the running game. Shepherd’s quickness and intense approach to the game make him a good receiver in other areas as well. At the plate Shepherd has a short, compact stroke and is one of the few hitters we see who chokes up on the bat a bit to get better bat control. He attacked the ball aggressively with a pull type of approach in batting practice, but worked the ball around the field against live pitching. Shepherd’s superior defensive skills make him a sure Division I type of prospect. Randall is a very good student as well.
