Ryan Akins is a 2008 SS/P with a 5'11'', 175 lb. frame from Flower Mound, TX who attends Flower Mound. Ryan has a very athletic and slender frame with some present strength. He has serious athletic ability and has good actions all over the field. In the field he has plus body control, and does a good job coming to get the ball. He has soft hands, and follows his throw well. He is a slick fielder that can make all the plays. At the plate he lets the ball travel, and flashes good bat speed. He is balanced in his stance and he gets good leverage from his swing. His hands are quiet and quick to the ball. He showed discipline at the plate and will wait to get his pitch. He has very good usable speed, and is aggressive on the bases with good instincts. He ran a 6.75 sixty during the workout and has an explosive first step. On the mound he has good loose arm action and good tempo in his delivery. He is a downhill thrower with arm speed, and his fastball topped at 85 mph. He does a good job staying consistent with his arm action on his offspeed. Good athlete coming off of the mound to field his position.

Ryan Akins is a 2008 SS/P with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame from Flower Mound, TX, who attends Flower Mound HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team at this event. Lean, athletic, and wiry frame. Akins is a fun player to watch who is only going to keep getting better. Defensively he has plus actions with soft hands, nice feet, and arm strength with accuracy. He moves very well showing great range, and always gets in position. At the plate he has a quick bat with a short and compact swing. He had a great BP session driving balls with no wasted movement. Akins currently has gap power that could develop as he adds strength. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. His fastball topped out at 86 mph with natural cutting action. Akins also showed the ability to spin the breaking ball. He allowed only 2 hits during his 3 innings on the mound while striking out 3. Akins has a good set of tools that make him a must follow two-way prospect.

Akins is a 5-11, 160 lb sophomore shortstop from Texas with a very projectable athletic body. He shows natural athletic balance in all his actions and has advanced baseball skills, especially on defense. Akins is a 7.04 runner with first step quickness that enables him to get to lots of balls in the middle of the field, especially going to his right in the hole. He has plenty of arm strength for shortstop and it should keep improving. Like many young shortstops with skills, Akins tends to relax on the routine play and make a few errors while making the tough play look easy. Offensively, Akins has good bat speed with nice extension and projectable power. He currently has a problem flying out with his back side and back foot, which affects his balance and his ability to drive the ball, but he's aware of this and it is correctable. Akins also pitched a couple of innings in relief and could further develop as a pitcher as well as as a position player. He has a smooth, athletic delivery and an over the top release point that generates good leverage to the plate. Akins fastball was 80-82 mph and his 65 mph curveball had good 12/6 break to it. Akins is a national level follow and a bright young prospect with a high ceiling.

Ryan Akins is a 2008 SS/P from Flower Mound, Texas. Akins is just 14 years old, but he looks like he has a chance to become a special player when he physically matures. Akins has very advanced actions and tools for his age. He already throws in the low 80’s off the mound, and can make the plays at shortstop. Akins' swing from the right side is quick and balanced, and he made solid line drive contact off good stuff in games. He’s just started switch-hitting a few months ago, and shows some promise left handed, but is much more advanced from the right side. Akins carries himself on the field like a mature player well beyond his years. He’s going to be a fun one to watch develop.

Akins is an "08" 8th grader SS/P from Flower Mound, TX. At 5'7/125 he's far from being physically mature. Ryan shows excellent athletic actions. In the field he shows good instincts, good feet and a good glove. His arm strength is very good for his size and age, and will get much stronger with maturity. He has a nice quick transfer/release with a quick loose arm that is well suited for a middle infielder. At the plate he has a nice inside-out approach to contact with good rotation. A switch hitter he has a line drive swing plane with a high finish and some bat speed. He lacks sufficient strength for much power with wood but he makes good solid contact. From the mound he shows a loose arm from a 3/4 slot. His fastball was low 70s with some hand-side life. His curve is low 60s with 11-5 rotation and tight spin with some depth. His mechanics are solid with a good finish. One to follow real closely over the next few years as he develops. Depending on how he develops physically, he could be a special talent.
