Derek Casey is a 2014 RHP/OF with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Mechanicsville, VA who attends Hanover HS. Slender projectable athletic build. Fast paced delivery, extended high 3/4's release point, loose quick arm, big wrap/grab in back, some effort on release. Upper 80's fastball, topped at 90 mph, will cut fastball at 85 mph at times with good effect, slider potential. Hard spin on mid 70's curveball, 2-plane 11/5 shape and good biting action and tight spin, throws CB for strikes consistently. Did not throw change up. Some mechanical issues to work through but very live arm and projects well. Very good student. Verbal commitment to U. Virginia.
