Ryan Hayes is a 2005 strong bodied catcher from Middleburg, FL, with definite Division I tools offensively and defensively. Hayes’ actions are short and compact on defense and he shows big league arm strength with pop times consistently around the 2.00 mark. He took one of the best batting practices in Fort Myers, showing a quick bat with well above average hand strength from a tall, no stride approach. The ball really jumped off Hayes’ bat and he had some good game at bats as well. Hayes also threw an inning of relief, touching 82 mph with his fastball and striking out two of the three hitters he faced. He has a good feel for the game. He can play at a very high level.

Ryan Hayes -- Hayes is a physically strong junior right handed pitcher/catcher with good arm strength. He throws from a high ¾’s release point with balanced mechanics and a smooth, effortless arm stroke. Every once in a while Hayes will get rushed and get his body out in front of his arm, like many young pitchers. Hayes fastball topped out at 85 mph. He also threw a 72-74 mph sweeping slurve that’s a good college pitch right now. Hayes also caught at the showcase and has enough talent with the bat and glove to be a top position player at the next level. He’s a very hard worker behind the plate and very aggressive about blocking balls and throwing. Hayes arm strength is obvious and he had workout pop times in the 1.90’s and game pops around 2.20. Hayes uses his strength well at the plate, getting good lower half drive and generating very good bat speed. He keeps his hands inside the ball well and has a gap to gap type approach. Big time power potential in his swing. Hayes’ attitude is contagious, too. He loves being at the ball park and it shows. Ryan is a good student as well.
