Russ Carone is a 2007 MIF from John Jay HS in South Salem, NY with a 6'1", 170 lb. frame. Russ has a lean athletic build and performed well in batting practice. He showed good bat speed and extension in his swing. Russ was able to center the ball well and showed good gap to gap pop. Russ will see even more improvement at the plate as he fill out his frame. In the field Russ showed good second base actions with sound feet and a quick release. Russ showed good upside for when he fills out and could be a solid mid-level college baseball player.

Carone's straight line 60 speed (6.97) transfers over to his range and quickness defensively. He has good footwork and moves to the baseball smoothly. He has arm strength with good carry on the ball. He makes good accurate throws that are online consistently. He has the defensive tool set to play either MIF position with the arm strength to play SS. Carone is a switch hitter who starts from a wide stance from the right side. He gets right up on the plate and has solid bat speed. From the left side he has a balanced stance and stays balanced through finish. He has a late load which slows his hands a bit through the zone. Carone is a very athletic player with a good tool set to improve upon.

Russ Carone is a 2007 MIF/3B from John Jay High School in South Salem, NY, with an athletic 6'1'', 170 lb. frame. Carone was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Showed good speed in the sixty and quickness on the bases and in the field. Defensively he has solid arm strength at 77 mph with good accuracy across the diamond. His hands are quick with nice transfers and he will turn the double play well. Carone has good range, especially to his left, and made some smooth and athletic plays on slow rollers. At the plate he is a switch hitter with developing skills. From the left side he looked more comfortable with a smoother swing getting his hands extended with bat speed. Right handed he has the tendency to keep his hands too close to his body limiting his bat speed and extension. He has a quiet approach from both sides with a smooth rock back load. Carone has a short bat path to the ball and has the ability to use the opposite field. He will be a good line drive contact hitter at the next level. He is also a good student.

Carone is a switch-hitter with good extension to his swing and with the ability to improve with more strength. He has a lot of upside to his physical ability if he keeps working hard and is a good follow for scouts in the Northeast. Carone is also a good student.
