Carlos Pena is a 2012 RHP with a 6-5 240 lb. frame from Columbus, OH who is Home Schooled. Extra large mature frame, very strong look. Full wind up, long loose extended arm action, mid 3/4's release point, sometimes lower, tends to open early and spin off front side in delivery. Upper 80's fastball, touched 91 mph, has more velocity in his arm with improved mechanics and leverage, gets big sinking action on FB at times. Soft curveball and even softer change up, big sink on change but too large a velocity separation. Tends to pitch backwards and not establish fastball aggressively enough. Raw skills but has tools to really improve. Signed with Sinclair CC.

Carlos Pena is a 2012 RHP with a 6-5 220 lb. frame from Columbus, OH who attends West HS. Grown man's body, extra strong and well proportioned. Tall open delivery, slow pace, mid 3/4's extended release point, repeats delivery well. Fastball to 88 mph, very heavy at the plate with good sink, even bigger sink on change up, split type change life, quality pitch he should throw more. Soft sweeping curveball, throws curveball for strikes at anytime in count. Has some deception and throws strikes and can mix it up, mature approach on mound. Tools to be successful at the next level.

Simple side step delivery, low hands in delivery, slow pace, mid 3/4's arm slot, stiff front side on release impacts balance and consistency, upright finish. Steady 86-88 mph fastball, some flat running action. tends to get under curveball, soft flat shape, cuts off release on change up. Present mechanics need work, has a 90+ arm in there, maybe in near future. Shows athleticism in the infield, moves well for his size, same mid 3/4's arm slot. Power approach at the plate, low deep hands create length, occasional lift. Follow carefully.
