Alex Vargas is a 2012 RHP/ with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Freeport, NY who attends Calhoun. Very good athlete with a lean, wiry build. Throws from 3/4 slot with fast arm. Full back turn delivery. Arm is loose and ball comes out easy with good life. Repeats mechanics well and throws strikes. Consistent mid 80s velo, topping at 88. Fastball showed late movement. Curveball had 11/5 break at 75 mph and changeup at 68 showed sink. Raw with both pitches but has potential. Very loose and easy arm. Good athlete ran a 6.91. Very impressive infield tools. Smooth with clean hands and lots of arm strength. Quick first step, good body control and some flash. Lots of potential at plate. Loose swing actions with raw power and a line drive stroke. Has good balance and the ball comes off the bat well. High level follow. Good student.
