Derek Burkamper is a 2013 RHP with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Muscatine, IA who attends Muscatine. Lean athletic build, very good young pitcher's projection. High hand/leg raise delivery, full clean arm circle, high 3/4's to over the top release, really powers downhill well with plus angle. Fastball topped out at 92 mph, very steady velocity for three innings, fastball mostly straight but spots to both sides of the plate with intent and fills up the strike zone. Hard 75-77 mph curveball, hard spin and tight 3/4's break, have seen more vertical shape in the past but still a qualilty pitch, rare change up but flashed quality and promise with more use. Very impressive performance. Signed with Nebraska but will get extensive professional looks the rest of the Spring.

Derek Burkamper is a 2013 RHP with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Muscatine, IA who attends Muscatine HS. Very nice pitcher's build, has filled out and gained 10-15 solid pounds in the off season. Nice balanced delivery, high 3/4's arm slot, gets downhill well, loose out front, good leverage at release. Improved fastball velocity, topped out at 91 mph, maintained fastball velocity very well, mostly straight, can improve on getting fastball to glove side more consistently. Hard spinning curveball, bites hard with deep 11/5 shape at times, potential plus pitch with more consistency. Nice change up with arm speed and good sink at the plate. Showed feel for three quality pitches, still projects to get better. Moved himself into draftable territory with this performance, very impressive. Signed with Nebraska.

Calm side step delivery, stays tall through release, bit cross body on release, over the top slot, loose whippy arm action. Mid 80's fastball, topped at 87 mph, good run down in the zone, tends to straighten out when middle up. Flashed hard slider with some sharpness and depth, not consistent with spin. Mature feel for change up with nice sink. Shows three pitches and the ability to throw strikes and pitch, waiting for next jump in raw stuff. Verbal Commitment to Nebraska.

Throws from H 3/4 slot with an arm that works very well. Some effort in delivery, online mechanics with good extension and hard stuff. Fastball sat 87-89 with lots of firmness and lift. Curveball with 11/5 break at 75 showed big break, very good shape and occasional tilt. Changeup at 81 had good arm action and has a lot of potential as a #3 pitch. Very interesting arm to watch. Highest level follow.
