Bennett Davis is a 5'10" second baseman from Katy, Texas, who performed well in Fort Myers. He has good strength throughout his frame, especially in his hips and thighs, and has some very good quickness to him. Davis is a 7.00 runner in the 60, and close to ML average down the line to first base. Davis looks like the type of hitter that a coach would like to have at the top of his batting order. He has a simple contact approach with a spread stance, his hands and weight back, and balanced, and even a bit of choking up on the bat. He stays within himself on his swing, and had a very, very high percentage of solid line drive contact against live pitching and in batting practice. Davis isn’t going to hit with a lot of power right now, but it’s going to be rare when he doesn’t make solid contact. Defensively, Davis’s quickness and body life work well for him at second base. His hands are smooth and quick. The only thing that didn’t happen for Davis defensively was his arm strength. His arm stroke and throwing mechanics were solid, but his arm strength was a bit below average. We don’t know if Davis is coming off an injury or something, but it looked like he should have plenty of arm strength until he released the ball. Everything else that Davis does plays real well at the college level. Bennett is a very good student.
