2003 Sunshine West Showcase
Shima was one of the sharpest defensive infielders that we saw in the Sunshine West Showcase. He handles his 6 foot, 172 pound body like a sports car. He is extremely agile and uses his 6.67 speed from the 60 very well at the shortstop position. His first step is fast, his glove is a plus and his actions are quick. He appears to have the defensive ability to make an impact at the next level right away. He threw 75 mph across the diamond but seemed to never fully let the ball go and it came out of his hand easy. With the bat he showed an open stance with a nice short swing. He pulled his upper body off some pitches early but got some power out of his hips. If he improves his hitting ability and continues getting stronger he could be a real good prospect in the 04 class. Good student.
