Steven Brooks is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Seton Hall Prep, residing in Wyckoff, NJ. Brooks has a compact, strong build on his lively 6'0" 175 lb. frame. One of the nation's premier speedsters, Brooks also has hitting and throwing tools that rate very highly. He was ranked #14 among PG National Top 100 position players, earning a selection to the Aflac All-American Classic, along with two of his high school teammates, RHPs Rick Porcello and Evan Daneili. Brooks has a very quick bat and should hit for high average throughout his career. He is not only a quality line drive hitter who sprays the ball on a line to all fields, but he also has more power than you might expect in that body. The ball jumps off his bat very well, indicating his bat speed through contact. He is at his best when hitting the ball on a line and hard on the ground but as he gets older Brooks will be able to pick his spots to try and jerk one in the seats. His future role will be as a leadoff man, though he is capable of hitting as a three-hole type. Brooks not only is a plus runner, but he has a plus arm, providing him with two tools that project him as a plus defensive player. He gets good jumps and can certainly close on the ball. His tools stand out pretty clearly, it is a matter of performance for Brooks, not projection. He ran 4.18 home/1st and a laser timed 6.40 60 yard dash. Brooks is a top D1 prospect with many of the nation's premier programs recruiting him and he will also have crosscheckers come in one many occasions this season, to see him and his two teammates. It is actually quite likely that Seton Hall Prep will be the most heavily scouted high school team this season, so Brooks will certainly have his chance to impress the MLB clubs as an upper round talent.

Steven Brooks is a 2007 OF from Seton Hall Prep in Wyckoff, NJ, with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame. He has nice athletic tone and good present strength. Brooks is one of the fastest players in the 2007 class. He can fly! Brooks ran the 60 in 6.41 in Fort Myers and can really accelerate on the bases. He has impact speed that opponents are going to have to account for at all times. Brooks has excellent arm strength in the outfield with good carry and accuracy on his throws and his speed will give him centerfield range. At the plate, Brooks hits out of a wide stance with no stride and a quiet approach. He has very good bat speed and a level, line drive swing and present gap to gap power. Brooks stays behind the ball very well in his swing and drives the ball in the gaps. He's going to be a doubles and triples machine with his speed. His hitting fundamentals are very sound and consistent. Brooks showed the bat speed and hand strength to back spin the ball on occasion, which promises more power in the future as well. Brooks is a top level national prospect who has the kind of tools and body that the pro scouts will definitely pay attention to. He is also a very good student.

Brooks is a young sophomore outfielder from New Jersey with good present tools and the chance to keep improving and make himself into a very nice prospect. Brooks had a good workout session, running the 60 in 6.91 and throwing 80 mph from the outfield with a long, projectable arm action. He has good strength in his hands and upper body and used that to generate some bat speed and bat quickness during batting practice. Brooks has some mechanical issues with his swing that will improve with repetitions and good coaching, but the ball jumped off his bat nicely and we liked Brooks’ approach at the plate. It’s a good lesson for parents and players alike who get hung up in showcase performance that our game evaluations of Brooks were even better than our BP evaluations despite the fact that he struggled with contact a bit. The young man showed bat speed and a good idea at the plate. Keep a close eye on him. Brooks is also an excellent student.
