Taylor Gelbrich is a 2007 C/3B/OF with a 6'1'', 200 lb. frame from Los Angeles CA, who attends St. Monica HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Gelbrich has a strong core area, along with strong legs. He performed really with the bat in this event and also showed very good defensive abilities and fundamentals. At the plate he has a knack for centering the baseball on the barrel. Gelbrich has a pretty good power stroke and it plays from gap to gap, maybe even best to the oppo gap. His hands are strong and he gets through contact well, driving the baseball to all parts of the field. At the catcher position, his power potential is very intriguing. Defensively Gelbrich flashed very good catch/throw skills in the workout. He has a quick exchange and feet that work very quickly, sometimes too quickly. An adjustment will have to be made to get his momentum moving more directly to 2nd base during his delivery, but his tools are there, including being able to block, sitting well, and being a good receiver. His skill set is quite well-rounded and his bat will play. He is a solid student too. Gelbrich's older brother is a catching prospect at the University of San Diego.

Taylor Gelbrich is a 2007 C/3B/P from St. Monica HS, residing in Los Angeles, CA, with a 6'1" 200 lb. frame. Gelbrich was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has a strong frame and a chance to develop some physicality with the bat. A right handed hitter, he is an aggressive hitter with good bat speed. Gelbrich is a nice looking hitting prospect, though somewhat raw. He gets his arms to good extension, gets through the ball well, and has some life in his hands. He has a solid offensive skill set though he will need to develop a better timing mechanism. Gelbrich has legitimate power potential for the middle of a college line-up. On defense he put up pop times from 2.10-2.12 in a showcase workout, employing a long arm action that will need to be cut down at the higher levels of the game. Gelbrich's feet work pretty well and his exchange shows promise. On the mound Gelbrich pitches from a high 3/4 slot and has a two-part arm stroke on the backside. He showed a 78-81 mph FB that was thrown aggressively, though he lived up in zone. That FB did have decent life and some tailing action. Gelbrich used a 11/5 shaped 67 mph CB that can be a complement to his FB because the FB comes out of his hand pretty easily, is pretty sneaky, and generally can make hitters uncomfortable. He will need to develop better body control and be able to hold the ball longer to become a college prospect on the mound, but his arm does work. Gelbrich's brother is a talented catching prospect at the University of San Diego so he has some genes that are of intrigue. Gelbrich is a good young talent. His skills are a bit raw but they are there. He is a good D1 prospect.
