Phillips is a 6-2 sophomore right handed pitcher from Georgia with a nice, projectable pitcher’s build. He could get big and strong with normal development and some hard work. Phillips throws from a high ¾’s release point with some fall off on release and some balance issues that can be addressed. His fastball was mostly 81-82 mph in two outings at the showcase. His best pitch was a 67-69 mph curveball that had very tight spin and sharp downer action from his high release point. This pitch can be a real weapon for Phillips as he matures as a pitcher, especially as he adds velocity on all his pitches. Phillips also showed a 72 mph change up and looked like he cut his fastball a couple of times. He’s a strong follow prospect who could really improve in the future.
