McBurrows is a primary left handed pitcher who many scouts have also expressed interest in as an outfielder as well. McBurrows had a strong showcase with the bat, hitting the ball hard several times in the games and running his usual sub-7.0 60. But we think his future probably lies on the mound. McBurrows has a very live arm and we’ve seen him into the 90’s at times in the past. At the World Showcase he was 86-89 mph on his fastball, averaging 87. McBurrows has a high ¾’s release point and does a nice job of getting over the ball and creating downward plane to his pitches. He also has plenty of deception and hitters act like they’re reacting to even harder stuff. McBurrows had good command of his pitches in Ft Myers. His breaking pitch is a 77-79 mph slider that has good tight spin to it and is a good compliment to his fastball. Thad has committed to Florida but with a good spring he could create some serious early draft interest.

McBurrows is an excellent athlete who has yet to define himself as a baseball prospect. He does many things well both as a player and as a pitcher and being a left/left player will certainly help him. Time will tell where he ends up. As a pitcher, McBurrows has a high leg kick and develops good arm speed and a nice downward plane on his pitches. The leg kick probably does more harm than good, as he has some command concerns with a fastball that will touch 90 mph. McBurrows flashed a good curveball rotation but struggled with the release point a little. With a bat in his hand, McBurrows had much the same approach as he did on the mound. He generates good bat speed with a slightly upper cut, lifting swing but is often under the ball. With average speed and arm strength, McBurrows can play any of the three outfield positions well and we’ve seen him make some nice catches in right field. McBurrows has a high ceiling as a lefty pitcher. His arm works very nice and he is extremely athletic. His 6'1/190 body is very strong, but he has room to get even bigger. With some minor adjustments and normal progression, he could easily become a nice draft pick next June. He's definitely a highest level college prospect, but if he shows MLB scouts that lefty 90+, he may be in pro ball next year.

Thad is a big time 2-way guy. He has a big strong athletic body and he has some big time tools. He has an outstanding strong "plus" arm from the outfield at 91mph. He ran a 7.0 in the 60yd on a slow track. He shows excellent bat speed and power potential. We really like him on the mound where he touched 89 left handed with good life. He throws loose and easy from a 3/4 arm slot. He also has a sharp biting curveball at 74 and good change at 73-74. He was one of the top players at the sunshine east and should be one of the top players in the country. We really like his arm and athletic ability!
