Johnston is a 6'1" 195 pound 2006 first baseman, outfielder, and lefthanded pitcher from Simi Valley, California who attends Oaks Christian High School. He has a thick stocky strong build with room to fill out still. As a pitcher, he throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and uses all of his body to throw. He is very tough on lefties because of his arm slot and his motion which is very busy and deceptive. He throws a very hard and tight slider at 65 mph. His fastball tops out at 76 mph and is very heavy as well. He throws a very good changeup to both right and left handers with very good action on it at 69 mph. Tim is a very good hitter as well. He has good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. He tends to like the ball inside as he is very short to the ball. He has an idea how to hit and uses minimal effort. During the workout, he threw 77 mph from the outfield and 76 mph from first base. He has a short compact arm action that does lack some carry to it.

Tim Johnston is a 2006 1B/P/OF from Oaks Christian HS in Simi Valley, CA, with a 6'1", 190 lb. frame. Johnston was one of the best defensive first baseman at the event. He showed excellent footwork with soft hands and good body control. Offensively he is a left handed hitter with a very balanced swing. Johnston takes a short stride and shows strength in his swing with good bad speed. Sometimes he gets his weight out front early causing a slight loft in his swing. In the games he hit some very hard balls to the pull side including an RBI triple. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 to low 3/4 arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. There is some effort in his delivery with a slight head tilt in his delivery. His fastball topped out at 74 mph, and he mixed in a breaking ball at 63 mph and a 63 mph changeup. His best skills are with the bat and defensively at first base.

Tim Johnston is a 2006 first baseman/left handed pitcher from Simi Valley, California with a strong body at 6'1", 190 pounds. He hits from a wide stance with a small stride into contact. He has a quick bat with a nice extended high finish. A good hitter, he has a contact approach with good power to the pull side. The ball jumps off the bat. Defensively Johnston has good footwork around first base and he shows some agility. He has an excellent glove and was picking balls out of the dirt all day. He also pitched from a low 3/4 slot with a somewhat rigid delivery that showed some effort. His fastball topped out at 73. His slider topped out at 60, and his change at 65. Tim projects be a good power hitting first baseman at the next level.

Johnston is a 6-1 left handed hitting first baseman from southern California. He has a strong lower half and good athletic balance. During batting practice Johnson hit out of an open stance with a pull/loft approach. He had good bat speed and good extension out front and lofted a couple balls a long way. During the games Johnston shortened up some and kept his hands inside the ball and hit it hard a couple of times to the middle of the field. Defensively, Johnston showed good actions around the bag and soft hands receiving throws. Johnston also threw 4 innings, with impressive results. He faced only 12 batters, striking out 6 and inducing 6 ground balls. Johnston doesn’t throw hard from the left side, topping out at 74 mph on his fastball, with a 62 mph curveball and a nice mid 60’s change up that’s his best pitch. Johnston pitches to spots, nibbles at the bottom part of the strike zone and gets good sink on all his pitches. The hitters were pretty anxious to get themselves out with this pitching style.

Tim is a 2006 grad from Simi Valley California and has a medium frame and build with sloped shoulders and some now strength. Athletic looking and has room to add more muscle in future. He shows good balance and swing with some now raw power. Ball jumps off bat well and uses all fields in batting practice. Middle of the line up type hitter that should be able to produce runs for a quality college program. Shows that he has and idea at the plate but just needs to get a little more aggressive to jump on his pitch to drive. Slick fielder, looks better at 1B than OF, soft hands and looked comfortable around the bag. Good High School LHP with feel for the strike zone and showed some spin to his breaking ball.
