Tim McGrane is a 2006 right handed pitcher/first baseman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a strong 6'0", 195 lb. frame. McGrane throws from a 3/4 arm slot with above average arm speed, and good balance. He throws his fastball at 81-83 mph with arm side tail. McGrane gets a good downward plane to the plate for his size. His secondary pitches are still developing. McGrane has a looping curveball at 65 mph and a 72 mph change up. He has solid control of his pitches, and his secondary pitches will improve with better arm speed. McGrane has well above average bat speed with good present raw power. He is top hand dominant, and was a dead pull hitter in batting practice. However, during the games he showed the ability to stay inside and drive the ball the other way. Tim is a possible two way player at the next level, and it will be interesting to watch him develop over the next year. His bat and arm are very interesting and we like the way he plays the game. Tim is a strong student.

RHP-OF Tim McGrane: McGrane is a sophomore athlete from Iowa who shows potential as both an outfielder and as a pitcher. He has a mature body, good strength and a polished approach to the game for a young player and should just keep getting better both ways. On the mound, McGrane threw three innings at the Showcase and would have retired nine straight hitters if it wasn’t for a single error. He threw consistent strikes with a fastball that topped out at 79 mph. McGrane does tend to fall off to the first base side in his delivery and this effected the power and spin on his mid 60’s curveball, although the pitch was very effective for him. McGrane took a strong batting practice and showed some bat speed and serious power potential with wood. He’s a good runner for his size and age and projects well into right field in the future. We’re going to keep a close eye on him as both pitcher and hitter, he has a chance to be a special player.
