Todd Brazeal is a 2007 right hand hitting 3rd baseman/corner outfielder from Chamberlain HS, residing in Tampa, FL. Brazeal has a strong, physical, well-proportioned build on his 6'3" 213 lb. frame. He certainly passes the eye test. Brazeal also does an awful lot right on the field and was ranked #90 among PG National Top 100 position players. There are some at-bats when Brazeal looks like he is an offensive force just waiting to happen, on a consistent basis. He sets up very aggressively at the plate and has the look of a hitter from the moment he steps in the box. His raw strength shows when he makes contact because he can overpower the ball. He is also the type of hitter that doesn't have to make square barrel contact to get hits, he is strong enough to find the outfield grass even if he gets it a bit off the label. Brazeal has a quick bat and his swing is very lively through the zone. He drives the ball hard into the gaps and shows good present day power that should continue to develop as he becomes a better overall hitter. Another thing Brazeal showed that was impressive was his penchant for hammering mistake pitches. He is a middle of the line-up run producer that has a chance to also hit for some average. Over at 3rd base he showed a well-rounded set of abilities for the hot corner. His arm and hands are both very good and he really handled the position quite well. He looks like a MLB 3rd baseman and brings a lot of what scouts look for at that position. Look for Brazeal to get strong draft attention this spring, as the top Tampa area players usually do. He will be an immediate impact player in a D1 program if he goes to school. Brazeal ran 4.69 home/1st, with a 7.36 60.

Brazeal is a man sized sophomore third baseman from Florida who is a familiar face on the prospect circuit. He is surprisingly mobile for a young man his size and runs the bases with good quickness and shows range at third base. Brazeal is a good defender with soft hands and good arm strength. His arm didn’t have it’s usual zip on it in Fort Myers but that might just be the off season. Brazeal swung the bat very well at the Showcase, though. He has a no load approach but plenty of strength to get the bat going. Brazeal has a short swing and shows well above average power potential to all fields. In fact, he does a very nice job of staying short and compact and not trying to do too much right now. He had a 3-3 game at the showcase and all were well hit singles. The power is definitely there, though. Brazeal also pitched a couple of innings and threw up to 82 mph on his fastball with a 68-72 mph breaking ball. Brazeal has an excellent attitude on the field and enjoys playing the game. Brazeal is a very good student as well. He is a top prospect in the 07 class.

Todd Brazeal is a talented 2007 OF/P with a projectable 6'3", 205 lb. body from Tampa, FL. He has present tools with a promising future if he develops as expected. He has the size and arm strength to be a solid right fielder and his arm was 71mph from the outfield, but transferred to 82mph on the mound. Defensively he shows quick, fluid actions with solid transfer/releases. His range is much better than his sixty speed indicates and he flashes a soft glove. At the plate he hits from a narrow base with an open stance and long stride that shows a slight weight transfer into contact. He has a nice quick approach. His swing is long with some lift in its plane and plus bat speed with good rotation through contact. He finishes high into a one handed release and flashes power potential. We like his bulldog plate presence that shows he likes to be there. He is solid on the mound as well and shows nice mechanics and advanced skills for his age. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a fast, loose arm that is long in action. He shows minimal effort while working with a normal tempo. He uses a drop-and-drive pitching style with a nice linear finish and he goes after hitters. His 82 mph fastball has much more in it in the future. His 66 mph curveball has 11-5 tilt with a loose spin. His 74 mph changeup is already a plus pitch with good hand-side sink and good deception. We see big-time potential in this one if he continues to develop. Definitely one to follow closely.
