Torre Langley is a 2006 catcher/right handed pitcher from Winston, GA with a muscular build at 5-9, 175 lbs. He's arguably the best catching prospect in the country and doesn't get much argument when it comes to defense. You will rarely see a catcher at any level with better arm strength. Langley threw 86 mph down to second and that's what we usually get him at. His best pop time was 1.76 and Langley throws that without rushing and putting the ball right on the bag more often than not. Langley is also a very quick athlete who can run (6.90) and shift quickly. He's caught some of the best pitching prospects in the country the past few years and is very polished. Offensively, Langley is a line drive hitter who stays balanced and within himself very well. He has good bat speed and is just beginning to show occasional gap to gap power. Perfect Game scouts have compared Langley to another short catcher, the Astros Brad Ausmus, who has won multiple Gold Gloves. Langley is a very good student who has committed to Georgia Tech.

Langley is a 5-9 junior catcher from Georgia with a compact, strong body. We’ve seen Langley catch dozens of games in the last couple of years but this is the first time we’ve seen him in a showcase environment. Wow, did he stand out! Langley showed top level professional arm strength from behind the plate at 85 mph and of all the throws we timed in drills, between innings and in games, the slowest was 2.08. Most were 1.81 to 1.86 and most were tag throws. Langley’s other defensive skills measure up to his throwing ability and we have no hesitation in calling him the best defensive high school catcher in the country. Offensively, Langley showed us a bit of a different approach. He’s been a bat control hitter who is very effective at hitting the ball up the middle and to right field. In Fort Myers, Langley lengthened his swing some and looked to hit with some power. He had a double and triple in one game, so he showed us that that can be part of his future package as well. In addition, we had never seen Langley pitch before but we shouldn’t have been surprised by the ability he showed on the mound. Langley has a short, very quick arm stroke and a compact, simple delivery. Despite all the throwing he does as a catcher, he still threw 86-88 mph consistently during two short appearances in Fort Myers. Langley’s slider reaches 78 mph and was a very good pitch at times. During his first appearance, Langley threw a hard 75 mph knuckleball that the PG scout described as "ridiculous at times" for it’s hard movement. Langley will be too valuable and busy at the next level to likely pitch, but it’s nice to know the ability is there. Langley is a good student as well.
