Travis Burge is a 2005 from Port St. Joe, FL. He's a slender 6'0" left handed pitcher with broad shoulders and some physical projection. He threw three quick shutout innings in Fort Myers, allowing one hit and striking out five hitters while showing three quality college level pitches and good command of the strike zone. Burge worked his fastball anywhere from 75 to 84 mph depending what he wanted to do with it. His 2-seamer had good late running life to it. We’re going to call his lower velocity fastballs a change up because of the speed differential, but what Burge really did was work the entire velocity range like a Tom Glavine or Zach Greinke does. Burge’s curveball was sharp at 67-69 mph with a sweeping type break. Burge’s pitching mechanics are excellent, which contributes to his command of location and velocity. His arm is quick and smooth and he has a very linear, controlled delivery. We imagine that Burge dominates hitters at the high school level and expect he’ll do the same at the college level as well. He ran a very good 60 and shows athletic ability. Travis is a good student.
