Blake Shay is a 2007 3B/1B/OF/P with a 6'0'', 200 lb. frame from Longwood FL, who attends Lyman HS. He has a strong, athletic build and good present strength. Shay hits from a spread stance and looks very balanced and calm in the box. He's strong enough to generate good bat speed when he stays back on the ball and has a very consistent line drive swing plane. Shay hit the ball consistently hard and showed some pop to all fields. He battled pitchers, foulded off some tough pitches and had a quality at bat just about every time up. He looks like he'll be able to hit at the next level. Defensively, Shay played both outfield and infield and profiles as a playable corner player whose bat will carry him. He runs a 7.32 60 and threw 78 mph from both the infield and outfield. Shay also pitched and had sound pitching mechanics, a short, repeatable arm action and a 80 mph fastball that he commanded well. Shay is also a very good student.

Shay is a 5-11 right handed hitting third baseman from Florida. He has excellent strength for a sophomore and has obviously worked hard on his conditioning. Shay hits from an open stance at the plate with high hands and takes a quick, aggressive swing with a line drive swing plane. His strength gives him good bat speed. Shay will pull off the ball occasionally from his open approach and his aggressiveness but he shows nice potential to develop as a hitter. Defensively, Shay showed good arm strength from third base, good quick feet and nice overall balance. He’ll be solid defensively down the road. Shay is also an excellent student.

Blake Shay -- Shay is a very young freshman third baseman from Florida. It looks like he’s already started working hard on developing his upper body strength. During batting practice he showed bat speed and power potential. Shay is going to struggle against better pitching until he changes his current approach during games, though. He starts open and has a double toe tap trigger that just carries his body more open to the point he loses leverage and some balance in his swing. Blake is a very good student who looks like he takes his game and conditioning seriously and will work hard on making adjustments. He's only a freshman, but he is a good one.
