Will Jostock: Jostock is a tall and lanky 6-6 senior right hander from Michigan who is well known to the national scouting community. We’ve seen Jostock up to the low 90’s before but we haven't seen him in that velocity neighborhood in the last 8-10 months. He threw well in Cedar Rapids though and looks like he’s ready for a strong spring. Jostock was 86-89 mph on his fastball from a ¾’s release point. This release point gives Jostock good running action on his fastball but also takes away some of his natural leverage. In fact, Jostock will drop lower at times on his fastball. Jostock’s secondary pitches were very solid. His curveball had good 2-plane break and his change up had good sink and deception at 74-75 mph. Jostock has signed to go to Tennessee but will see plenty of pro cross checkers watching his performances during the spring. He has a fast arm and he's 6'6, he could be a mechanical adjustment away from mid 90s.

We’ve seen the 6-6 Jostock (he looks bigger than that on the mound) throw a number of times. As is usually the case with an extra tall, young pitcher, there’s a level of inconsistency that you come to expect as they slowly master their mechanics. We’ve seen Jostock sit in the 93-94 mph range and dominate top level hitting prospects before. In Lincoln at the PG Nationals, Jostock looked a little rusty, throwing 88-90 mph with a 73 mph curveball and a 77 mph split finger. With his long arms and projectable body, Jostock could become a large, large strong athlete as he matures. The best part about his mechanics is the excellent leverage he gets to the plate on his pitches. If everything works out well for Jostock, he could be a 6-7, 240 horse who throws downhill in the mid-90’s with some quality secondary pitches. That's kind of what we expect from him. He's a big time pro prospect who will be followed closely right up until the draft. If he shows low 90s velocity he should go very early. He can pitch at any college in the Country.

As a 6 foot 6 and 185 pound right-hander, Jostock has a very long and lean body full of coordinated muscle. He is a dominating figure who projects as a possible high draft pick. He shows good mechanics throughout his delivery staying tall until he braces his front leg. His firm front side helps flex his upper body and getting good extension out front. It is one reason he has a powerful fastball while still showing good body control. His arm works is in a higher than 3/4 slot and its action is fluid, easy and very fast. It is the type of arm action that projects for improvement, especially attached to the type of body Jostock has. His fastball showed 88-91 mph velocity with 91 appearing many times. He showed a 2 and 4 seam fastball and the 2 seam pitch clearly had a sharp tail to it. His curveball was clocked between 72-75 mph and showed potential at the Major League level. He threw 2 other good off-speed pitches in a change-up and a splitty. Both came out of his hand well and both showed 80-82 mph velocity. He has a very good feel for the splitty and his change-up is not far behind. His command is very good with all 4 pitches and he has entered into an exclusive catergory of top pitching prospects in the Nation. He really has a good deep pitch selection and has a rare combination of athleticism, pitchability and projectability. With his ceiling there is no telling just how good he might end up in a year from now. He should be a high draft pick in 2004. If he gets any better he'll be a sure first round pick.
