William Hirsch is a 2006 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Suffolk, VA with a medium build at 6-0, 175 lbs. He is a very athletic primary pitcher who can run (6.88) and hit and play third base at a college prospect level. Hirsch throws from a 3/4's arm slot with a very short and quick power arm action. His fastball is consistently 89 mph and has good late life in the strike zone. Hirsch will occasionally drop down a bit on his fastball as well and he shows very good command of this pitch. His curveball is a power pitch at 74 mph with a very sharp break and good depth. Hirsch didn't show us a change up in Atlanta but he should have no problem developing a feel for one with his athletic ability and command. Hirsch is an excellent student off the field who has committed to Georgia Tech for college.

Hirsch is a very athletic senior right handed pitcher from Virginia who also shows prospect level tools as an outfielder. He looks significantly bigger and stronger than his listed 6-0, 175 lb program size. Hirsch dominated for 3 innings on the mound, striking out 8 hitters and was invited to the Perfect Game National Showcase based on his performance. Hirsch has a very quick arm with good whip and solid pitching mechanics. He throws a very heavy sinking fastball in the 86-89 mph range and likes working away to both left handed and right handed hitters. Hirsch’s varied the speed and break on his breaking ball between 67 and 76 mph and had very good spin and tight breaking action. Hirsch had good command of all his pitches, worked quickly and attacked hitters. He’s a top level pitching prospect.

William Hirsch is an exciting two-way prospect from the 2006 class from Suffolk, Virginia, and one of the best prospects at the SE Underclass showcase. It would be difficult, if not ill advised, to judge whether he is a better outfield or pitching prospect right now, although Hirsch lists himself as a primary pitcher. Hirsch is 6'0", 175 lbs. with good overall muscle tone and projectability. On the mound he was primarily a fastball/change up pitcher, with a quick, short arm stroke that generated a live fastball that topped out at 88 mph. Hirsch’s 76 mph change up was a good pitch, too. We had a better look at Hirsch as a position player. He’s a 7.08-60 runner who we had as low as 4.36 to first base from the right side. Hirsch hits from a balanced stance with a knee lift trigger and good hand and upper body coil. He generates very good bat speed, and showed a very advanced ability to square up on the ball to all fields. In one series of three at bats, Hirsch doubled down the left field line, drove the centerfielder back on a fly ball and doubled over the right fielder’s head. That’s nice hitting.
