Bret Kim is a 2009 second baseman/catcher from Davenport, Iowa, with a 5'6", 145 lb. frame. Kim has good hands defensively at second base with good footwork. His arm plays well at second base, and he looked smooth. He didn't look as comfortable behind the plate as he did at second base. Kim has a balanced swing with a line drive swing path. He uses a short stride and is a straight away hitter. He keeps his weight back well on off-speed pitches, and uses the whole field. Kim has limited present power, but like most players his age, he needs time to mature and add strength. Kim is a very good defensive second baseman who will hit line drives.
