Bobby Simmons is a 2006 third baseman who appears heavier and stronger than his listed 165 lbs. He is an aggressive player who we’ve seen frequently in the past. Simmons hits out of a wide stance with a pronounced bat wrap and a level, hard swing. Simmons' bat speed is good and he makes solid contact when he gets his arms extended. Defensively, Simmons shows good arm strength, soft hands especially to the backhand, and some nice body control. His feet could be a bit quicker. Simmons also showed some promise on the mound. He throws with some effort and flies open early with his front shoulder and spins off, but his stuff was good. Simmons' fastball was 82-84 mph with some sinking and tailing action, and his 64-66 mph curveball had some depth to it. Better mechanics might make him a serious pitching prospect and he should keep this option open in the future. Bobby is a very good player and very good student.

Bobby Simmons: Simmons is a sophomore shortstop/right handed pitcher from Illinois who is going to be a very good prospect by the time he’s a senior. He has an athletic 5-11 frame with good breadth to his shoulders and the feet for size projection. Simmons had no trouble hitting some of the better pitchers at the Showcase and was consistently right on all types of pitches. He has a nice swing, very good bat speed and enough present strength to drive the ball very well for his age. On the mound, Simmons throws from an easy, athletic delivery with a smooth, loose arm action. He topped out at 84 mph in Cedar Rapids and we’ve seen him a tick or two above that during the fall. Simmons throws a 66-68 mph curveball and 72-73 mph change up and has control of all three of his offerings. It’s way too early to tell if this talented young prospect is going to be better as a position player or a pitcher but we’re pretty sure he’s going to be very good at both. His ceiling is higher as a infielder at this time, where he's already a top prospect. Bobby is a very good student.

Simmons is an "06" SS/P from Streamwood, IL. At 5'11/165 he has a very good, lean athletic baseball body. In fact, he shows excellent all-round athletic ability. At the plate he has a nice short smooth swing with some loft. His hands are loose and he shows rhythm to his swing. He makes solid contact and gets backspin on a high % of his swings. On the mound he showed good arm strength in the mid 80s with three good pitches. He uses his body very well, getting good leverage for his quick arm. Bobby is a very impressive athletic baseball player. He's a very good student who should create a lot of serious interest from high level colleges and even pro scouts. Keep a close eye on him.
