Jake Thompson is a 2008 RHP with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Cerritos, CA who attends Long Beach Wilson HS. He has an athletic and well proportioned build that can take on plenty more strength. Thompson throws hard with little effort and has the kind of leveraged, loose, smooth arm action you rarely see on a pitcher. His fastball was 88-92 mph and had late action down in the zone, sometimes sinking, sometimes cutting. Thompson's curveball was a plus pitch at times at 75 mph with very tight and late biting action and his change up showed the same type of quality and feel around the strike zone. Thompson can pitch and come at hitters with three potential plus pitches. He has a very high ceiling and if he bumps his fastball up a bit in the next year will get 1st round type consideration by some teams. Thompson is a live wire type personality who is into the game and plays emotionally. He is a good student who has a verbal to Long Beach State.

Jake Thompson is a 2008 RHP/INF with a 6'3'', 195 lb. frame from Long Beach CA, who attends Wilson HS. Jake has a tall athletic build and is one of the top players in the class of 2008. On the mound Jake has a long loose arm action that works well with very good arm speed. Jake has good pitchability as he works down in the zone and locates his fastball very well. He features a tight spinning 11 to 5 curveball and a solid sinking change-up. Jake has a good feel for all of his pitches and huge upside on the mound. At the plate Jake is a very aggressive hitter with good bat speed and nice power potential. He is a little raw still at the plate, but the ball really leaves the bat well and he has a lot of pop in his swing. Jake is a good student that will be a highest-level college prospect and could see a lot of draft attention next year, possibly even as high as the 1st round.
