Chris Amezquita is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'2'', 190 lb. frame from La Mirada, CA who attends Servite HS. He has a strong and mature big league type body with above average strength, especially for a middle infielder. Amezuita has a top level bat that plays at any position. He has a very quiet and confident approach with a low effort swing and outstanding bat speed. Amezquita's bat stays on plane with the ball a long, long time and he's balanced through contact. He hit the ball hard almost every at bat against some of the top pitching in the country and capped off his offensive performance with a long home run off of an inside fastball. He looks like a pro hitter right now. Defensively, Amezquita has excellent raw arm strength and clean actions at shortstop. The big question for him is going to be whether he has the quickness to remain in the middle of the field. He can for now but may end up at third base, where the transition should be seamless. Amezquita also throws 89-92 mph off the mound with a 73 mph curveball. He has all the tools and skills to be a very high draft pick and top level pro player. Amezquita is a good student who has a verbal commitment to UC Irvine. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.

Chris Amezquita is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'2'', 190 lb. frame from La Mirada CA, who attends Servite HS. He was selected as a Top 10 Prospect at this event and would have made that list as a position player or as a pitcher alone. Amezquita is one of the more talented players in the west but continues to fly a bit under the national radar when it comes to the top '08 players in California, which is one of the strongest groups of '08 players in the nation. Amezquita has a strong and athletic body that is well-proportioned. He is 'big' for a shortstop, but not in comparison to those in pro baseball. Amezquita does not run like most middle infielders, but he his instincts, light feet, a good first step and soft hands make-up for below average raw footspeed and he has a plus arm across the diamond. He will likely move to 3rd base someday, but for hopefully is not moved until he shows he can't play up the middle. No matter where he plays, Amezquita's bat will play at that position. He has plus bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat, with power from gap to gap. He profiles as a legitimate middle of the order bat and likely will remain that way each step his career advances. On the mound Amezquita will also draw significant attention from the pro game. He has a loose, fast, power arm and is a strike thrower, though he will need to continue to develop better command. His fastball topped at 90 mph in this event and we have trusted reports of 90+ this spring. Amezquita does a nice job of getting his fastball downhill with good leverage in his arm stroke. His curveball (72-73 mph) has tight spin and 12/6 downer action. At times it was a hammer. He also throws his change-up with plus hand speed. Amezquita has all the pitches and the type of arm action, arm speed, and body that will have him moving up draft lists as a pitcher and as an offensive player, he has the arm strength, power and bat speed that will have him rising those same lists as a powering hitting infield prospect. Amezquita committed to UC Irvine during his sophomore year.

Chris Amezquita is a 2008 right hand hitting shortstop/pitcher from Servite HS, residing in La Mirada, CA. Named a Top Prospect at this event. Amezquita has a 6'1" 180 lb. frame and a strong, athletic body type that is well-proportioned, with more room to fill out as he continues to physically develop. He is one of the premier 2-way players in the '08 class. At the plate Amezquita displays plus bat speed and good present day power with the promise of developing plus future power. His hands are very lively as is his swing through the hitting zone. His barrel stays in the zone well and allows him to drive the ball to all fields with power. On the pull side his power plays as above average right now. He is an immediate impact type hitter at all future levels. In the field his tools are also presently above average, approaching plus. Amezquita has a plus arm and easy actions. He has soft hands, goes to the 6-hole very well and combines his strong with a quick release. His footwork is good and he shows that he has feel for playing defense. Physically he could outgrow SS but he looks plenty capable of being a top tier offensive SS for quite some time. On the mound Amezquita is also very talented. He has a long, fast, and powerful arm stroke to go with a simple athletic delivery. His upper 80s (T90) fastball is quite hot in the zone and at times had hard riding action that suggests the ability to develop a power sinker. His curveball had very tight spin and power two-plane action, while showing advanced feel for that pitch He threw strikes with his change-up too. Amezquita is an aggressive pitcher with very good stuff, savvy, andcontrol of all his pitches. If for some reason he does hit at the higher levels, he is a prospect on the mound as well. He is among the very best players in the '08 class and gave an early verbal commitment to UC Irvine. He remains a must follow as a professional prospect, as a position player first.

Chris Amezquita is a 6'1" 168 pound 2008 infielder, right handed pitcher, and outfielder from La Mirada< California who attends Servite High School. He is a good looking projectable athletic kid who has a tall slender frame and build with strong shoulders and has room for added strength. Chris shows an early idea at the plate. He uses a high leg kick upon approach and has good bat speed with a short swing. He has very good balance and has some hidden strength in his swing. Amezquita has the athletic actions to play anywhere on the field, especially up the middle. He has good arm strength and very good balanced footwork and soft hands allowing him to make tough plays look routine. On the mound, he shows a good feel for the strike zone and is effective when he keeps the ball down in the zone. His fastball at 84-86 mph will get faster as he gets stronger. His curveball is the pitch that seperates him from others. It is a nasty breaker at 66 mph that has late action and good depth on it. He has a good feel for both pitches and keeps everything down in the zone. During the workout, Chris showed his athleticism by running a 7.38 60 and throwing 80 mph from the infield. Amezquita could be an impact player at the next level as he has great upside. He is a good student as well with a 3.22 gpa.
