Jose Cerda is a 2017 IF/RHP with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from San Ysidro, CA who attends Montgomery HS. Cerda has a large athletic build. Hits from an open stance, good weight transfer into swing, creates good leverage and bat speed with lower half. Gets extended through baseball. Showed pull side power with good jump off the barrel during batting practice. During the game showed ability to use the whole field with solid contact. Defensively, primary INF, good arm with balanced actions. Accurate throws. Solid footwork with good actions on the move. Had clean transfer and release. From the OF, long arm action from a clean exchange. Sure actions to ball, could almost speed up a bit to the ball. Also pitches. Full clean arm action to a high 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed. Pounded lower part of strike zone with fastball. repeated mechanics well. Created good downward plane to plate with good extension. Had feel for 12/6 curveball with good shape, action and depth. Named to Top Prospect List. Good Student.
