2005 South Underclass Showcase
Richey is a 6-2, 180 lb junior right handed pitcher from Texas with a nice, projectable pitcher's body. He threw 4 innings at the showcase, topping out at 81 mph on his fastball and throwing a 67-68 mph curveball. Richey throws from a high 3/4's release point and has a short arm circle in back. He tends to throw his front leg towards the hitter in an exaggerated fashion but this didn't seem to affect Richey's ability to throw strikes. His best present ability was being able to spot his fastball to different parts of the strike zone consistently. Richey's 68 mph curveball had some sharpness at times and was a good pitch for him as well. More velocity should come with added strength and maturity. Richey is also an outstanding student.
