Austin Mason is a 2009 C/SS with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from Pensacola, FL, who attends Tate HS. Was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Mason is a young player with a slender and athletic build. Defensively he has solid arm strength from behind the plate for his age. He shows quickness that allows him to block balls in the dirt, as well as helping on his throws to second base. His quick release helped record consistent pop times under 2.00, with a best of 1.84. He has nice footwork, and looks good behind the plate. Offensively he is a legitimate switch hitter who hits using a no stride approach. He attacks the ball and is aggressive in the box. Mason shows hand quickness that allows him to get the bat through the zone well. He is a line drive hitter that will consistently put the ball in play. Mason stays short to the ball and keeps his hands inside allowing him to hit to all fields. He showed good hustle at this event, and he is a good student.

Austin Mason is a 2009 C/SS with a 5'10'', 155 lb. frame from Cantonment, FL, who attends Tate HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team. Mason has a medium frame with athleticism. Defensively he has very quick feet behind the plate on his throws down to second base. His quickness helped produce pop times during the workout under 2.00 with a best of 1.93. He has a nice release and his throws were accurate. At the plate he is a legitimate switch hitter who uses a knee lift trigger from both sides. Mason has solid bat speed through the hitting zone with a line drive swing plane. He stays balanced through his swing, and has quick hands. Mason made consistently hard contact during batting practice and during game action. There is upside to his overall game and he has a chance to be an offensive minded catcher at the next level.

Austin is a very good 2009 switch hitting catcher. He is a 5-10/150 switch hitting catcher from Cantonment,Fl with 7.38 sixty speed Very focused for age and he wants to show well. He shows exceptional arm strength for his age and with 2.07(71c) pop time. His footwork is very good and he has very athletic actions. College projection. During the game in between innings, every throw he made down was on the bag and at game speed. His hustle caught our eye. A switch hitter who is a little better from the LH side. LH he shows better balance and stays on the ball longer. From the RH side he looks more comfortable and and has a short stroke with good balance. He had a bad bp session, most likely nerves, but put the ball in play in the games. Will be a player to watch in the future. Named to Top Prospect game.
