Cody Slaughter is a 2009 1B/3B/C with a 6'2'', 195 lb. frame from New Port Richey Fl, who attends Clearwater Central HS. He has a big frame and lean athletic build with very good projection. Slaughter showed good versatility in the field, playing first base, outfield and catcher at the showcase. He probably projects best at first base, where he has good hands and solid arm strength for his age. He got good jumps in the outfield and should continue to work on his catching as well. Offensively, Slaughter has a slightly closed, crouched stance and does a nice job of using his lower half to start his swing and help him generate power. Slaughter has good bat speed for a 2009 and the ball jumps off his bat well. He showed the ability to go gap to gap with the ball and those balls are just going to carry farther and farther as he gets older. Slaughter tends to lean back in his swing at times, which makes him longer and lessens his contact and his best when he's hitting throught the ball. Slaughter is an interesting power prospect and should be followed closely. He is also an excellent student.
