Matthew Fields is a 2016 SS/RHP, 3B, OF with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Lakewood, CA who attends Lakewood HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength with room to fill throughout frame. Ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, shows athleticism and fields the ball out front, hands play at ball, full arm action with some effort at release from high three-quarter arm slot, gets on top of accurate throws. Quick arm from the outfield, comes out cleanly and shows present strength, effortless release, shows accuracy on throws. Also pitched, starts leg lift equal to belt and comes out quickly to plate, lands slightly open, shows arm speed through back coming to an over the top arm slot. Fastball topped at 86 mph and shows consistently cutting life and shows nice command of the zone getting to either side of plate. Power breaking ball with 10-4 shape and solid depth, will also shows 12-6 curveball with softer break putting pitchability on display. Left-handed hitter, starts with an upright and wide base, medium hand set. Short path to ball with contact approach, upper body swing, lowers hands at start, line drive swing plane with line drive contact to middle and pull, shows feel for barrel and flashes carry when squared. Two-way potential. Named to West Coast Top Prospect List. Good student.
