John Poccia is a 2016 RHP/MIF with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Monmouth Beach, NJ who attends Red Bank Catholic. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill out. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, throws from a lower three-quarter arm slot with a full arm action through the backside. Slight cave on back but generates extension out front and lands online with front foot. Strong overall feel on the mound, mixes well and showed the comfort to pitch backwards. Fastball topped out at 78 mph with short running action down in the zone. Varies breaking ball shape and velocity well, curveball shows 11-5 life with depth, occasional 12-6 and can locate to arm side. Short slider with sweeping life at 74 mph, Full four pitch mix rounded out by changeup at 70 mph, flashed fade down in zone. Kept hitters off balance. Good student.
