LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Mark Peterson is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Lincoln Park Academy, residing in Fort Pierce, FL. He has a long and lanky body type and a very projectable 6'5" 180 lb. frame. One of the many talented lefties in Fayetteville, Peterson ranked #38 among PG National Top 85 pitchers due to his combination of pitchability, stuff, and projectability. Pitching from a 3/4 slot, Peterson has a clean arm action and though there is a little bit of effort, it is not a concern. That effort seems to be geared toward putting movement on his pitches, rather than for velocity. He has good rhythm in his delivery that is a slightly across his body, creating a slight bit of deception. Even if he could not get his fastball up to 89 mph, which he did, Peterson could still pitch with the fastball. His range is a comfortable 86-88 mph and it appears a bit better when it gets on hitters. Peterson gets good arm side movement on the fastball and showed the ability to pitch to both sides of the plate, to right and left hand hitters. His best pitch is his 71-74 mph curveball, which has plus depth. That 1/7 shaped breaker starts out headed to the zone and gets bats started. Then it dives below bats below the zone, resulting in many swing and misses. Peterson's curveball is an out pitch. He also showed advanced feel of his 78-79 mph change-up. A strike thrower with three pitches, Peterson has big time pitchability and a body that will keep scouts checking on him this spring, waiting for just a little more velocity to possibly move on him in the top few rounds. As for colleges, Peterson should be near the top of all LHP recruiting lists.
