2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Trey Cowley is a 2016 SS/OF with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Urbandale, IA who attends Urbandale HS. Lean, athletic build with solid strength throughout while retaining physical projection. Hits from slightly open, relaxed stance with a high back elbow. Uses quick hands to fire the bat through the zone, generating solid bat speed with a simplistic approach and overall simple mechanics. Overall smooth stroke, good approach to hitting with an idea of the strike zone and feel for the barrel. Will drive the baseball more effectively as he gets stronger. Could benefit from incorporating lower half into swing more. Showed consistent balance throughout swing, and quickness of hands really stood out. Defensively, worked out both in the infield and in the outfield. Showcased good arm strength with loose, projectable arm action and good accuracy in both drills. Fields the ball deep between legs during infield drills, shows good footwork and transfer. Showed off athletic actions during outfield drills, fielding cleanly with consistency and overall smoothness, while throwing as hard as 83 MPH. Ran a 6.90 60 yard dash as well. Very good student.
