Ryan Layne is a 2016 SS/3B/RHP with a 6-0 176 lb. frame from Nicholasville, KY who attends West Jessamine HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to build, has room to fill out with additional strength. Strong runner, posted a 6.89 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, moves well to the ball and field the ball out front, hands play at the ball, gets on top of throws with extension out front, remained balanced and quick charging in. Also pitched, gets tall on backside with a slight hip turn at top, full arm action in the back working to a three-quarters arm slot. Gets on top of fastball, topped at 83 mph with occasional running life, gets on top of ball and works down in the zone. Gets down to glove side well, occasional cut to glove side, pitches to contact and showed a short 11-5 curveball with depth. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high back elbow in the box. Upper body swing with a line drive plane through the zone, pull approach and shows quickness to hands. Shows natural loft to swing plane with occasional extension out front. Very good student.
